A Vertical Short Story

Telling a visual story is one of the magnificent powers of photography. The viewer can witness fact or fiction often with little more than a glance. If the images are powerful, interesting, or even just funny they will walk away with something akin to memory. This series, like the rest of the underwater experiments are part of a strange narrative. Singly each image is a key frame for a particular scene. In series they build upon each other and create a more complex, yet playful story. Unlike the usual left to right or horizontal reading style we have become accustomed to, this small set uses an down to up or vertical sequence. Visually and literally they each represent a piece of space situated on top of one another, but hundreds of feet apart. Set within a circular frame, these images are part of their own distinct biosphere, yet we know they are not outside the larger sphere of the Earth that this circular stage often represents.
